Designing a groundbreaking DSLR-like experience for the camera in your pocket on iOS and Android. Leveraging Moment's successful camera accessory hardware business, I spearheaded the end-to-end planning, forecasting, and product design of Moment's flagship DSLR-like camera app for Android and iOS. In addition to hardware integration, I led the product, design, and engineering teams through multiple releases of the app, earning a feature in Apple's App Store and App of the Day award in multiple countries.

Screen architecture

The Moment Pro Camera app offers an advanced suite of professional-grade photo and video features. In photo mode, users have access to fully customizable settings such as lens selection, shutter speed, ISO, and manual focus. The interface includes a live histogram for real-time exposure monitoring, a grid overlay for composition, and easy toggles for switching between automatic and manual settings. In video mode, the app provides a robust set of tools including frame rate selection (24, 30, 60, 120 fps), resolution adjustments up to 4K, and dual-channel audio meters for precise sound recording. The video recording interface also includes an RGB histogram for accurate color monitoring, as well as a mode switcher that allows for seamless transitions between video, time-lapse, and slow-motion modes.

Hardware / software integration

Moment's Pro Photo case is equipped with a built in battery, shutter button, 3-state LED, and Moment lens mount. The Apple-certified MFi (Made for iPhone) device utilized the lightening connector rather than having to rely on a wireless connection. With the MFi program came a set of immovable constraints around battery charging that had to be built into the firmare (Apple products are first class citizens and are always taken care of first). I worked on seamless app integration, LED states on the hardware itself, as well as mechanisms for firmware upgrades.
